Murang'a Governor Arrested In Hospital

Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria was on Monday afternoon arrested at a Nairobi hospital by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.

Mwangi was reportedly apprehended as he visited a patient at the Agha Khan Hospital, over claims that he obstructed anti-graft officers when they raided his home in Thika earlier in the year.

The Governor was taken for questioning at the Integrity Centre, where EACC Communications Officer Yassin Amaro confirmed that he would be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face obstruction of justice charges.

Governor Wa Iria got into trouble with the Anti-graft body, when his supporters allegedly attacked investigators sent to raid his home for material that could aid in probing allegations that he misused public funds.

The EACC officers were forced to flee cutting short their mission, when the governor's supporters turned hostile.
