'Nosy' Husband Lands Wife in Jail

A woman in Maralal, Samburu County, was sentenced to one year in prison after her husband reported that she had stolen a mobile phone worth Sh1,000, an offence she was found guilty of.

Ms Esther Lokochile was accused of stealing Mr Isaac Lendorop’s phone, after he gave her and four friends a lift in his vehicle. The complainant reportedly missed his phone after the passengers left.

“He went around to all the five people he had offered a lift to ask them if they had seen his mobile phone but they all denied,” Nairobi News quoted the prosecution.

Lokochile's husband discovered the phone hidden in a sack inside their house and reported the matter to Lendorop.

The husband allegedly urged the complainant to report the matter to the police, who conducted a swoop in the house of the accused prompting her to admit to the crime.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Abraham Gachie, Mrs Lokochile requested the court to pardon her saying that she was only misled by the devil into commiting the crime.

In November, a woman in Meru requested a court to sentence her own husband for sending abusive messages after she refused to pick his calls.
