NTSA Boss Hijacked By Matatu Crew

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials were on Wednesday night briefly hijacked by matatu operators, during an operation along Ngong Road.

The officers led by Director General Francis Mejja had boarded the vehicle during the crackdown when the crew detained and threatened them, before driving towards Nairobi's Karen estate.

The group is said to have been dumped though unharmed in a bush within the City, with the suspects vanishing moments afterwards.

"They later abandoned the NTSA boss and his team in a thicket past Karen town, but unharmed. The matatu was later towed to Ngong Police Station," said a police officers.

He divulged that the Authority had been warned against carrying out operations without the company of armed police officer. 

NTSA has been at loggerheads with motorists following sting crackdowns particularly targeting drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, in an attempt to ensure road safety.
