ODM Official Exposes Person Behind His Arrest

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale, has alleged that he was set up by a hotel owner to have him arrested.

Etale had earlier been apprehended at his hotel room in Malindi for allegedly being in possession of election materials, claims he denied, before he was later released on a cash bail of Sh30,000.

“The owner of Rafiki Hotel in Malindi, a Jubilee sympathiser must be ashamed that she uses her business as a den for harassing opposing views,” Etale said on twitter.

The ODM official also claimed that a police officer had told him that his arrest was politically instigated by the warring sections of Jubilee and CORD.

Etale also stated that officers at Malindi Police Station kept on receiving calls from powerful people who wanted him to be denied bail and his arrest kept secret.

"The investigation officer kept receiving calls from powerful forces. One instructed him not to allow me get my liberty through bail," he posted.

"An officer told me ' hii ni siasa... ni mambo na siasa ya Cord na Jubilee ' (An officer told me the arrest was a political affair between CORD and Jubilee),"  Etale narrated in a series of tweets in regard to his arrest.

The journalist's arrest came moments before Monday's Malindi by-election could kick off.

ODM candidate Willy Mtengo was declared the winner after garnering 15,582 in the hotly contested election against his closest rival Philip Charo of Jubilee, who got 9,243.
