Over 300 Families Left Homeless

Over 300 families have been forced to relocate to higher grounds in Kisumu and Homabay counties after floods destroyed their homes.

The affected areas include East Kochia, West Kochia and East Kagan in Homabay while Kisumu's worst affected area is Kabogo village, Nyando constituency. This is the second time in less than a month where Nyando constituency residents have been displaced by floods.

The floods have also caused extensive damage to farms and killed livestock, bringing huge losses to the residents who are forced to seek shelter in schools on the higher grounds.

Appealing to the pubic to donate food, blankets and other essentials, local leaders have also called on the government to build a proper drainage system in the flood prone area as a lasting solution.

There are fears of more displacements as the heavy rains continue.
