Parents Beat Up Deputy Principal in Fierce Fight

Drama ensued in Migori County when parents of pupils at a primary school waged war against their counterparts and teachers of a neighbouring secondary school.

The parents representing Nyikendo Primary School in Suna East roughed up the secondary school Deputy Principal, John Hamisi, when he attempted to calm them down at the height of a dispute over a playing field.

The aggrieved parents stormed the secondary school demanding to know why the primary school's playground had been fenced off depriving their children of space.

Parents from the secondary school failed to tolerate their counterparts, hence engaged them in a bitter exchange before the two factions traded blows.

“The parents do not understand why the playground is fenced and pupils cannot access it as it has been the norm in the past. The school has been sharing the field with the secondary students,” the primary school chairman Washington Omondi was quoted by the Standard.

It is not clear whether injuries were sustained in the violent scuffle which sparked demonstrations from the pupils who demanded their playing field back.

In February, parents broke into Nyakiambi Primary School in Nakuru County after the head teacher sent their children home for failing to fund a teachers' trip.

The vacation, which was to be in Mombasa, was meant to appreciate teachers following good performance posted by the school in the 2015 national examinations.

The irate parents argued that the school head was forcing the teachers' trip down their throats.
