PHOTOS: 30 MCAs Beaten at Governor's Meeting

30 Members of Nyeri County Assembly were on Monday physically attacked during a meeting which Governor Nderitu Gachagua was to address at Kabaru Ward.

The County lawmakers had reportedly stormed the forum with an intent to cause disruption after they learnt that Majority Leader Duncuan Gituanja would not be allowed to speak during the road opening event in his Ward.

However, when the representatives were consulting on what to do ahead of Mr Gachagua's arrival, residents attending the function angrily descended on the politicians sparking a dramatic scene.

The legislators were whipped by the irate locals with some scampering safety while others took on the youth.

When the Governor arrived at the meeting, he sharply condemned the MCAs stating that they would not dictate how he ran his Government. Mr Gituanja was not also allowed to speak during the event.

“They have opportunities to call their meetings; they will not dictate how I will run mine,” Gachagua stated.

Mr Gachagua has been at loggerheads with the County's ward representatives who have previously threatened to impeach him.

Last week, Gachagua dared the MCAs to eject him from office, after they opened a fight with him over the usage of development funds and stalled projects.

In an earlier clash, the ward representatives proposed Sh180 Million project money to be channelled through the Ward Development Fund, which they sought to control. The Governor on the other hand, termed the proposal illegal adding that the MCAs wanted to use the cash for their 2017 campaigns.
