PHOTOS: 8 Killed in Road Crash Near Hospital

Eight people reportedly lost their lives on Tuesday afternoon after the vehicles they were travelling in were involved in a grisly road accident along the Nakuru-Naivasha Highway.

The accident, which happened near St Mary Hospital in Gilgil, involved a Kitale bound North Rift shuttle, a Highway Sacco matatu and Dayah company bus heading to Nairobi.

Confirming the incident, Gilgil OCPD Serah Koki said the 4pm accident was as a result of a head-on collision among the three vehicles.

According to eye witnesses, scores of other passengers were injured in the incident which caused heavy traffic along the busy road.

The accident happened at Mbaruk area at one of the most dreaded black spots along the highway.

The busy road has previously been identified as one of the dangerous areas to drive on, with records for numerous fatal road crashes.

This comes as the National Transport Safety Authority continues to conduct a crackdown on rogue drivers in an attempt to reduce road carnage that result to thousands of deaths every year.
