Former President Mwai Kibaki on Wednesday officially assumed his new job as UNESCO's Special Envoy for Water in Africa after his appointment in April.
In pictures shared online, Kibaki is seen arriving at his Nyari offices in Nairobi, where he was formally installed.
During the event, Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa handed the former Head of State a certificate of his designation.
The Former President expressed his gratitude for the new position adding that he was ready to deliver on his mandate.
"I started off representing Kenyans only. It is wonderful to end up supporting all these Africans. I am sure we will succeed. And I am sure the world will join us. Let us, therefore, put all our hearts in the job and do it properly." said the Former President.
In his new job, Kibaki is tasked with the responsibility of advocating for water conservation through rain harvesting and water recycling, as well as protection of water towers.
Unesco regional director Mohammed Djelid stated that: "The acceptance embodies Kenya's leadership on taking forward the values of Unesco. Water is a human right and yet it remains a scarce resource. What we need now is research and good leadership and governance required to manage our water".
