Police Constable Reveals his 'Unbelievable' Wealth

A police constable on Tuesday startled the National Police Service vetting board after revealing his net worth.

Constable Ali Ibrahim  Abdi claimed before the Johnstone Kavuludi-led commission that he was worth Sh2,026 and  had only one bank account despite serving for 20 years.

Abdi, who is attached to the Mariakani weighbridge, disclosed that he had two wives and five children with the first born being in Form One at a boarding school in Thika.

The constable told the board that due to poverty, one of his wives had at one time abandoned him adding that he was the only breadwinner.

The Wajir native said that he got married immediately he joined the police force.

"Am the only breadwinner in our family, I come from a very poor background," said Abdi.

The officer further claimed that he had never taken any loan in his entire life.

During last week's vetting session, some senior traffic cops revealed they were worth Sh50 Million while another officer was at odds to explain how he managed to transact more than Sh100 Million within four years.

Some juniors officers also admitted to collecting bribes for their seniors.
