Policewoman Shot In Suspected Gang Retaliation

A police woman was seriously injured on Monday night in Soweto area in Kayole, Nairobi after she was attacked by a gang of five men.

The woman was driving home from work when the men tried to car jack her, shooting her on the arm.

A distress signal was sent to police officers who took her to the hospital.

The motive of the shooting is yet to be identified, but The Standard quotes Kayole police boss Ali Nuno saying the woman could have been targeted for her work in fighting armed robberies.

The thugs did not steal anything when they fled the scene.

On the same night, five suspected thugs were shot dead and weapons recovered from them.

The men had been trying to rob a mobile shop in Mowlem area.

Three died during the gunfire exchange with police, while two escaped on foot.

The incidents are the latest in a wave of crime reported in the City.

Residents say that the thugs take advantage of poor lighting in some estates to carry out their robberies.

Unfortunately most of the thugs get violent, injuring victims and in some cases killing some.

The County government has been working on lighting up the city, in an effort to reduce the crimes.
