Safaricom Lowers Call Rates in 1 County

Mobile services provider Safaricom has resolved to reward loyal customers by introducing a new tariff that will allow them to make calls at half the normal rate.

On Wednesday, 1 million subscribers in Kilifi became the first to enjoy the offer dubbed 'Kilifi Tarriff'.

While launching the tariff in Kilifi town, Safaricom’s director in charge of enterprise business unit, Rita Okuthe, announced that for two months the county's residents will be calling at Sh2 down from Sh4 per minute rate.

“We have enjoyed a good working relationship with the county and for the two months we want to say thank you by allowing residents to spend only Sh2 per minute,” said Okuthe.

However, the director said that messaging and data charges for the coastal subscribers would remain the same during the period.

The programme is set to be rolled out in other rural areas across the country in the coming days.

“We want to extend this gesture to other rural areas so as that our customers can continue calling cheaply as they enjoy our services,” added Okuthe.
