Top 5 Most Corrupt Counties - EACC

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has released results of a survey announcing the most corrupt Counties in the country.

In the survey released on Tuesday, Murang'a County was ranked the most corrupt with a bribery score of 3.78 followed by Embu County which had 2.53.

Bomet County came in at third with a score of 2.46, Kisii with 2.41 with Wajir closing the list of most corrupt areas with a score of 2.33.

According to the report, the average bribe reported in the country had increased from Sh20,075 in 2012 to Sh80,000 in 2015 cutting across all the counties.

The statistics further noted that highest bribery amounts were paid in Mandera County with an estimated average of Sh80,000. On the other hand, the least amount of bribes were paid in; Meru (Sh6,639), Narok (Sh6,965) Nandi (Sh7,000) and Nairobi (Sh7,436).

The survey, which was carried out between August 23 to October 23 2015, stated that the Ministry of Interior was the most prone to corruption with an average of 40.3 percent followed by Health and Land departments at 14.3 and 11 per cent respectively.

The report further placed Education at 9.9 per cent, Transport and Infrastructure (6.1 per cent), Devolution and Planning (5.1 per cent), Defence (3.5 per cent) with the least corrupt being the Agriculture Ministry at 2.4 per cent.
