Uhuru to Meet Security Chiefs Over Bandit Attacks in Laikipia and Baringo

President Uhuru Kenyatta has reportedly summoned security chiefs for a crisis meeting which will be held at State House.

The President who spent the better part of the day in Nyeri County attending the burial of former area governor Nderitu Gachagua is said to have ordered for the meeting over increased cases of bandit attacks in Laikipia and Baringo areas.

The Head of State apparently gave the directive hours after being urged by the United Kingdom government to enhance security in Laikipia following the murder of its citizen.

In a statement, British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey expressed his sorrow over the murder of the former UK soldier identified as Tristan Voorspuy.

He noted that Kenya ought to heed to the numerous pleas he has been making over the security of the volatile area.

“I continue to urge the Kenyan authorities to take all necessary steps urgently to restore law and order, and to protect life and property in the area. I have repeatedly conveyed to the Kenyan authorities the United Kingdom’s deep concern at the situation in parts of Laikipia. I have done so again following Mr Voorspuy’s murder,” stated Hailey.

Voorspuy was on Saturday shot dead by invaders at his Sosian Ranch, where he had gone to assess a damage caused in a previous invasion.

The area has recently been experiencing a wave of violent attacks from raiders who destroy property especially targeting tourist lodges.
