Uhuru Strips Nkaissery's Powers

The Ministry of Interior and Coordination has lost powerful security departments which have now been moved to the Office of the President.

In new reshuffles by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the National Intelligence Service and National Counter-Terrorism Centre previously under Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery's authority have been moved to the Presidency.

The National Security Council and the National Security Advisory Committee which are responsible for making key security decisions were also transferred to President Kenyatta's office.

Following the reorganisation, the Interior Ministry was left in control of the Police, National Police Service Commission, NACADA, Kenya Citizens and Foreign Service, IPOA and the Betting Control and Licensing Board.

Other departments which were shifted to the Head of State's office include the office of the Deputy President, Vision 2030, Directorate of National Cohesion and Values, Inspectorate of State Corporations, the President’s Delivery Unit, State Corporations Advisory Committee, Power of Mercy Committee, Kenya International Boundaries Office and Northern Corridor Integration Projects Office.

The State Department of Housing and Urban Development was also moved from the Lands Ministry to the Transport docket while the Department of International Trade was moved from Amina Mohamed's Foreign Affairs Ministry to that of Industrialisation and Enterprise Development.
