Last year, 16 men from Nyeri suffered the same fate when Al Shabbaab attacked Mandera’s Koromey quarry killing 36 people.

According to Citizen Tv, one of the victims in Tuesday's attack,  Samuel Kinyua, had survived the attack last year, but met a horrible death yesterday.

The six had left their village in search of greener pastures and were working in the area when the attack happened.

Residents claim that most young men from the area and neighboring villages opt to go work in quarries in the North Eastern, lured by the promising opportunity to make money.

A cross section of leaders from Mandera condemned the attack and asked for security measures to be implemented, KBC reports.

According to Capital Fm, the leaders, led by Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow faulted the government for its laxity in providing enough security in the region.

The Star quotes the senator saying President Uhuru Kenyatta is ignoring the North Eastern region, yet he got a majority of its people's votes when vying for the presidency.
