Waiguru Wasted Sh44 Million on Fake Event - Parliament Told

A Director at the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) board told Parliament that former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Anne Waiguru ordered for payment of an event that was never conducted.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Investment Committee (PIC), Clement Ayungo said that Waiguru instructed an events company to be paid Sh44 Million for an event that had already been cancelled.

Mr Ayungo said he had been told by the former YEDF board chairman Bruce Odhiambo that Ms Waiguru had instructed that the money be paid although it was evident the services were never rendered.

“He (Odhiambo) told me he had received a call from Anne or State House, I can’t recall who but it was one of them, and told me to pay for the event which the minister had herself cancelled,” he told PIC.

The Committee which summoned several directors of the Youth Fund to shed light on the alleged loss of more than Sh180 Million also heard that the former CS had appointed former CEO Catherine Namuye despite being deemed unfit to hold public office.

Appearing before the same Committee, Ms Waiguru denied the accusations blaming the lawmakers of asking questions to satisfy the media without seeking genuine answers.

The former Minister's words did not go down well with PIC members who ordered her to withdraw her statement.
