The White House has released details of a phone conversation between Presidents Barack Obama and Uhuru Kenyatta which took place on Thursday.
According to a readout of the conversation, they engaged in a detailed talk including Mr Kenyatta's condolence to the United States for the recent mass shooting in Orlando where more than 45 people died.
“President Obama accepted President Kenyatta’s condolences for the terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida,” read the statement in part.
The two leaders also discussed the continued partnership between Kenya and America in combating terrorism and the progress Kenya had made in improving security.
The readout also disclosed that the Heads of State discussed the ongoing repatriation of refugees from camps in Kenya and the challenges the country was facing hosting thousands of internationally displaced persons.
“President Kenyatta reiterated that Kenya will continue to respect the dignity and safety of refugees in Kenya and comply with its international legal obligations. They agreed that the United States and Kenya would work closely together on this issue, to better ensure that the needs of refugees and host communities are met,” the release added.
During the conversation, Obama and Kenyatta further discussed how the two countries would continue partnering in a raft of issues. However, more details of the agreement were not laid out.
