The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has issued a warning to the Government, indicating that the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Posta (Postal Corporation of Kenya) might soon collapse owing to huge debts and poor management.
The Union's Secretary General Benson Okwaro, asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to immediately weigh in on the crisis crippling the two loss-making State Corporations, by bailing them out and reconstituting their managements before it was too late.
“Truth be told, the two State corporations are facing serious financial problems due to their style of management and it is because of this reason, we as a union we want President Uhuru Kenyatta to step in and save the two critical organisations from sinking,” Mr Okwaro was quoted by the Nation.
Okwaro further accused the two corporates of disenfranchising their more than 5000 members, by deducting the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), pension scheme, Savings, Credit and Cooperative Organisations (SACCOS) and bank loans, yet the deductions had not been submitted for the last nine months.
Recently, operations at KBC were disrupted after the Nairobi County officials stormed the broadcaster's premises seeking unpaid land rates that had accumulated to more than Sh2 Billion.
