Why Uhuru Retained Kuria in IEBC Talks

After initial reports indicated that Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria had been dropped from Jubilee team in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) talks, it has now emerged why the controversial legislator was retained.

According to National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Kuria's retention came after the Jubilee coalition realised that the Opposition had included Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama in its team.

“Why are you laughing that we have included Moses Kuria in our team? Si hata wale wengine wameweka Muthama (they have also included Muthama in their list. Kuria is an important member of our team,” Duale said during a press briefing.

The naming of Kuria had drawn laughter among those attending the press conference.

It is alleged that the inclusion of Kuria in the final list is meant to tackle the antics and grandstanding of Muthama, who together at Pangani Police Station were over hate speech

According to a report by The Standard, Mr Duale was instructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to include Kuria as he was the best option available to 'tame' Muthama.

Uhuru's direction is believed to have been issued moments before the list was released to the public.

Reports further indicate that Mukuruweini MP Kabando Wa Kabando was ejected from the list and replaced by the Gatundu South lawmaker.
