You Can Now Stop 'Dirty' Music Videos in Matatus

The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has rolled out an SMS platform through which passengers can report inappropriate behaviour by Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators.

Using the number 40233, passengers will be able to send messages bearing the matatu's registration number and SACCO name to either complain or compliment the crew.

According to the association’s CEO Richard Kanoru, travellers can report careless driving, inappropriate entertainment content and conduct in the vehicles.

“A passenger can demand that a driver stops playing pornographic videos and if they fail to cooperate they shall be banned,” Mr Kanoru said.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kanoru stated that the service line was previously available but the association was publicising it to assist in managing the industry effectively.

"If we find the complaints to be true the matatu crew will face the consequence of each SACCO. Every SACCO has its own code of conduct," he said.

Mr Kanoro further stated that once they receive the SMS, the information would then be verified and the crew members punished accordingly.

“A driver could be blacklisted if found to be at fault or even suspended by the respective SACCO after we have established through the sender of the message and the rest of the crew on duty as every matatu usually has two to three members of the crew[sic],” Kanoro was quoted by Nairobi News.
