Uhuru, Raila Meet Building Bridges Taskforce at State House

President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga met members of the Building Bridges Taskforce at State House, Nairobi on Friday.

In a statement, the President noted that he received an update on the activities of the team which was formed following his March 9 handshake with former bitter rival Raila at Harambee House.

Raila later tweeted: "We were able to come up with a clear road map that will see the team proceed smoothly with its mandate."

They are tasked with coming up with solutions to address challenges outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two leaders.

Challenges listed in the document include divisive elections, corruption and ethnic antagonism.

Last month, it was announced that the team was in the final stages of organizing a National Anti-Corruption Conference to be held in Nairobi.

According to Paul Mwangi, who leads the team alongside Amb. Martin Kimani as Joint Secretaries, citizens would get a chance to directly demand answers from lawmakers, members of the executive and the judiciary on the country's rampant corruption.

The 14-member team has a year to develop a roadmap addressing perennial challenges that have at times threatened to split the country apart.

While they have previously met Raila at his Capitol Hill Office, it was the first time members of the task-force were paying the President a courtesy call ,

Members of the team include James Matundura, Major John Seii, Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Maison Leshomo, Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji, Morompi ole Ronkai, Prof. Bishop Peter Njenga, Rose Moseu and Archbishop Zecheaus Okoth.

Others are Adams Oloo , Agnes Kavindu, Senator Amos Wako, Florence Omose, and Saeed Mwanguni.
