Education CS Amina Mohamed to Lead Talks on Averting Exam Leakages

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed will on Monday chair a crucial meeting involving over 1000 stakeholders in the forthcoming national examinations.

The high-level security meeting to be held at the Kenya School of Governance shall see CS Amina engage the officials to lay down strategies of eliminating cheating during this year's KCSE exams beginning on October 22, 2018.

All sub-county Directors of Education and Deputy County Commissioners shall be engaged on how they shall secure examination materials using 459 containers whose key shall be in their hands.

Sub-county education directors and deputy county commissioners are the only officers allowed to open the containers when the papers and other materials are being collected from various centers.

Affirming the security of the nationwide tests for form four students, the CS stated that numerous consultative meetings have been held previously to ensure the exercise is properly coordinated.

"There will be enhanced security in areas mapped as high risk. We have held consultative meetings with the Ministry of Interior and other security agencies to ensure a seamless coordination and delivery of the 2018 national examination materials," state CS Mohamed.

She held that examination centers that had been affected by demolitions, calamities or security concerns shall be taken care of, saying there were alternative centers to facilitate the examinations.

In Narok South alone, a total of 13,476 pupils in 27 primary schools, including 1,087 candidates have been affected by clashes while 15 schools with 5,791 pupils, including 434 candidates have been affected in Narok North Sub-county.

KCSE will start with practical sessions which include French (oral and braille), German (oral), Arabic (oral), Kenyan Sign Language (practical signing skills), music (practical) and home science (foods and nutrition)
