Trailer Runs Over & Kills Student One Month to Graduation [VIDEO]

A student at Kaimosi Teachers College in Bungoma County lost his life in a road carnage in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday, September 22.

Citizen TV reported that the student died on the spot in a crash when he riding a boda boda he was riding at Ndegelwa market in Bungoma.

According to eye-witness reports, the accident occurred when one trailer tried to overtake another before it tipped over just a few metres from the market.

The bodaboda rider, who was following not too far behind, is reported to have rammed into the lorry, losing his life on the spot.

The outraged witnesses expressed their anger and grief, given that the student was due to graduate next month after pursuing a course in Education at the Kaimosi Teachers College.

They called out police officers for their laxity, claiming that even two hours after the accident, not even a single one had made it to the scene.

The residents also called for the erection of bumps in the area to tame rogue drivers into driving reasonably to prevent such tragic accidents.

Accidents involving bodaboda riders are stated to have been on the rise in Bungoma county.

Bungoma County health Executive Anthony Walela in May 2019 claimed that more than 4,000 bodaboda riders in Bungoma's nine constituencies are injured every month.

“Our health facilities mostly treat patients involved in either motorcycle or bicycle accidents," he alleged.

He attributed the rising accidents involving the bodaboda riders to rudeness and lack of knowledge about road safety.

He stated that it was key that sensitization programs on road safety be introduced to be able to combat the issues of road carnage that have become rife.
