Jubilee Party's nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura was on Wednesday, June 24, appointed to the Speaker's Panel.

His new prestigious role will see him take up the role of Speaker whenever both the Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and his deputy Margaret Kamar are absent during proceedings.

"The Senate approves the nomination of Sen. Isaac Maigwa Mwaura, CBS, MP, as a Member of Speaker's Panel, to take up the vacancy occasioned by the election of Sen. (Prof.) Margaret Kamar, EGH, MP to the Office of the Deputy Speaker," reads the statement sent out by the House.

Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio issued a notice of motion on the approval of Mwaura's appointment.

The doting husband and father of one went to Thika Primary School for the Blind and later on Thika High School for the Blind. He then joined Kenyatta University to do a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and French.

He further did a Post-graduate diploma in Public Relations Management and a Diploma in Theology, before pursuing a Master’s degree in Social and Public Policy as a Ford Scholar from the University of Leeds. 

Hon. Mwaura holds another Master’s Degree from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa. 

He recently got an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities (Honoris Causa), from UGCI-USA for his contribution to society in serving the marginalized and minorities in Kenya. This came just a few months after the President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded him Chief of Burning Spear

He was an advisor to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Special Interest Groups and is currently serving as the National Coordinator for Albinism Society of Kenya since 2007. 

The Senator has also authored a book, A Discourse of Human Rights, Disability and Development in Kenya, and is currently the Senator representing people with disabilities in the Senate.

On June 13, he was among 11 individuals globally named as World Superheroes by Terre Des Homes in the Netherlands.

The honour was conferred to the nominated Senator due to his work in championing for the rights of vulnerable children in Kenya.

"When we serve humanity with all our hearts, we don’t think some people notice. I am committed to making change even when no one is looking. The joy to serve and put a smile on someone’s face keeps me going," Mwaura explained in a statement to newsrooms.

The Senator once confessed to batting stigma due to his genetic skin condition, going on to reveal that it led his own parents to abandon him.

He has come a long way since his traumatic childhood days, and will now take up the coveted role in the House Speaker's panel.
