General Mohamed Badi and his team launched a new exercise to weed out ghost workers and imposters from Nairobi County headquarters City Hall.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) launched a staff validation program that will see 6,852 employees who were transferred from City Hall to NMS verified.
The audit exercise commenced on Wednesday, November 25, and will run for two weeks to Friday, December 4.
Badi kickstarted the program with staff at the compliance and enforcement directorate.
"The exercise is to ensure there is compliance among staff seconded to NMS as well as to verify if we have the right people on board so that we do not have a mix-up. We do not want people purporting to be our staff yet they are not.
"All the staff, including those on offs and annual leave, should present themselves at their respective stations or venues indicated in the schedule for the validation exercise," a statement by NMS read.
Those under scrutiny will present crucial documents such as appointment letters, letters of secondment to NMS, original identification card, academic and professional certificates, last payslip and promotion letters.
Badi's previous exercise to deal with cartels has seen him expose unidentified people who control the water supply in Nairobi.
In July 2020, Badi unearthed cartels in South C who had cut water pipes, were rationing water and had stuffed mattresses in the pipes.
The artificial shortage of water saw water browsers and vendors benefit from selling water at exorbitant prices to Nairobians.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has also previously voiced his frustrations over ghost workers at his City Hall offices.
However, with the launch of NMS in February 2020, Sonko shifted his war to the Badi led team, accusing them of paying the ghost workers.
The governor claimed that he eliminated the issue which allegedly resurfaced under Badi's leadership.
