Former news anchor Lizz Ntojira has opened up on quitting the NTV newsroom due to the bright lights that were affecting her.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Ntojira recounted ditching anchoring to start a show dubbed Women and Power still at NTV

The former K24 TV reporter who made it to the Top 100 Kenyans 2020 demystified the popular perception that news anchoring is glamorous noting that the job failed to appeal to her.

"People put on make up for TV to help the lights bounce off properly on you, the primary reason is to help light bounce on your properly, beauty is secondary.

"For me, lights were killing me, I had persistent migraines, I actually enjoyed going to the field and that's why I launched my show Women and Power," she explained.

The former anchor added that she enjoyed going to the field to interact and engage with people, making an impact in the community as opposed to sitting in the newsroom.

The AMREF Global Communication Director felt as the anchoring was mostly about relaying the news to the viewers when in an actual sense she wanted to part of the story by resonating with the people.

Ntonjira revealed that she landed the NTV job while writing for the East African Magazine when Nation Media Group (NMG) embarked on a rebranding process and started off with the PM Live show that she hosted alongside Larry Madowo.

After leaving NTV Ntojira joined the Competitions Authority of Kenya as the Public Relations, Communications and External Affairs Manager in 2014.

The former anchor is now focused on her Lizz Ntojira Network, a platform that provides innovative, engaging, interactive and tailored training and coaching for the youth.

"Currently our membership is over 2,500, we have been able through the friends of the network to award 15 scholarships and held sessions that have impacted over 700 members across the country.

"We do Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that focuses on reproductive health and teenage pregnancies. There is a need for young people to be mentored," she added.
