Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has warned the new Jubilee Chief Whip Kiambu Senator Paul Kimani Wamatangi to tread carefully in his new job.
"Be careful whenever you are making rules, assume that your worst enemies might also use them on you. Be gracious and be kind," stated Sakaja.
Sakaja who was speaking at the Senate stated that for one to survive in the house; persuasion, consultation and respect will always triumph over intimidation, because everyone is an adult in the Senate.
Sakaja also spoke about Kang'ata's ouster, and made reference to sentiments he made during the removal of Senator Kihika and Senator Kithure.
''I consulted the Hansard, Mr. Speaker if you look at 22 May 2020; Senator Kang’ata said that Prof. Kindiki told me (Kang’ata) that you need a written document from the party. However, that is neither here nor there,’’ stated Sakaja.
Sakaja advised the newly appointed Wamatangi to be gentle and to always handle matters cautiously, adding that what one does will be done to unto them as tables might turn.
Speaking of democracy, Sakaja further stated that the party's position is never an individual's opinion.
"Party position in an established democracy is where you sit as members and discuss an issue. After issues are discussed then you have a political responsibility to implement what was approved by the majority,’’ said Sakaja.
Sakaja also advised that one should not burn bridges in the game of politics as one might find themselves taking the same path they had come from.
He thanked Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata for the job he did during the short period he held the position as the Chief Whip, and added that even though they didn’t agree on everything, he had given his best short in his short stint.
He termed Kang’ata as a jovial and a well-intentioned man.
Sakjaja also congratulated the incumbent Majority Chief Whip, Senator Wamatangi, promising to support him in his new position.
