The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Saturday, June 26, took action following a heavy traffic snarl-up experienced on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
In a statement signed by Director General P.M Mundinia, the authority stated that it had embarked on dualling the road stretch through the Public-Private Partnership Programme.
In the meantime, however, KeNHA urged motorists to use alternative routes.
Heavy goods vehicles were asked to compulsorily use the Rironi-Mai Mahiu- Naivasha route (A8 South) while other vehicles use the Rironi-Naivasha (A8) route.
The Authority highlighted that all the traffic from Naivasha to Nakuru routes and any other local traffic converged, hence, the traffic surge was considerable in this stretch.
"KeNHA encourages motorists to use the above alternative routes between Nairobi and Nakuru whenever convenient to avoid traffic snarl-up in Naivasha as it endeavors to provide an efficient, safe and reliable network."
Motorists endured a traffic snarl-up on Saturday owing to the ongoing World Rally Championship Safari rally.
The gridlock is said to have started forming in the early hours of Saturday, June 26 as fans traveled from Nairobi and other areas to Naivasha.
Motorists had called upon the government to intervene, citing that better preparation needed to be put in place for future events.
