The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has implicated officers based at Riruta police station in the murder of businessman Kevin Omwenga's brother, Wycliffe Omwenga.

Kinoti castigated the manner in which the police officers handled the case - affirming that their insouciant conduct raised many queries.

The DCI boss pointed out that DCI detectives had taken over the matter and revisited the crime scene in order to uncover more details. The detectives also interrogated the officers based at the station over their conduct of the matter.

“He could have been killed by parties who have an interest in many issues at hand. And given the manner in which officers at the station acted, it raises many questions,” Kinoti stated.

Kinoti's sentiments were echoed by Omwenga's family who alleged foul play in the murder of their kin.

Wycliffe's uncle, Kennedy Ongwae entailed that the family was chased away after they went to report the suspected murder of their kin at the station.

He added that the officers also declined to record the case in the Occurrence Book as required by the law.

"As a family, we are in shock given the mysterious death of Wycliffe which has happened less than a year since his brother was brutally murdered. We are seeking answers from authorities,” Ongwae stated.

The family also detailed that they were forced to seek private means to transport Wycliffe's body to the mortuary after the police claimed that they did not have a vehicle.

Wycliffe was slated to be the star witness of the murder probe of his brother, Kevin who was a car dealer.

Kevin made headlines after he was shot dead in August 2020. This raised questions as to the motive of the murder as some hinted that it could have been a deal gone wrong.

During the investigations, two suspects were also arrested over links to the murder of the businessman.

Wycliffe had initially informed police that on the fateful day of his brother's demise he was in the kitchen when he heard a gunshot and found his brother lying down.

He had pointed out that one of the suspects, who was still in the house, managed to escape from the scene.
