Police informer Peter Ngugi has sensationally claimed that five officers who participated in the murder of lawyer Willy Kimani, his clients and a tax driver - are still active cops.

Ngugi, who is one of the five people facing murder charges over the killing, identified the five as Mwaniki, Kamau, Kamenju, Waweru and Waingo without mentioning their second names.

He went on to testify, before the High Court, on the specific roles each of the officers played in the heinous crime.

"Waingo came and told me to go to a car wash yard where I'll meet Kamau. I went there but didn't find him, so I called him and he directed me to another place. I found him there, Kamau, together with Kamenjo, Waweru and Mwaniki," he said.

Ngugi disclosed that their existence in law enforcement was the reason he was reluctant to seek a release on bond, stating that his life would be endangered.

Notably, Waweru and Kamau were lined up as prosecution witnesses, where five individuals were arraigned.

The disgraced police informer stated that he did not participate in the killing, but was recruited by the officers to help in dumping the three bodies that were already stacked in sacks.

The five individuals who were held by the prosecution as key suspects were police officers Leonard Mwangi, Stephen Chebulet, Fredrick Leliman, Silvia Wanjiku and Peter Ngugi.

Lady Justice Jessie Lesiit in 2019 ruled that the five had a case to answer after the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that they had played part in the crime.

Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were abducted after leaving Mavoko Law Courts in Athi River Machakos county.

The investigations that followed indicated that the three were held at an AP camp for hours before being driven to their murder sites at an open field near the camp.

They were then stuffed into the bags and driven more than 70 kilometers away for dumping at Ol-Donyo Sabuk River, according to reports by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

The perpetrators supposedly committed the crime to influence a land dispute between one of the officers and Kimani's client.
