Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Wangui Ngirici, has signaled her possible exit from United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking in Kirinyaga, Ngirici alluded that she will be vying for the gubernatorial seat in 2022 despite Governor Anne Waiguru joining the UDA party.

Ngirici stated that she has no plans to leave the Kirinyaga seat as she urged the people to vote for her even if she contests as an independent candidate.

She further advised the Kirinyaga electorate to vet politicians seeking votes in the August 9, 2022 polls and not to focus on the political parties being used by the individuals.

“Leaders attract followers, they don’t follow them. They attract them. I will be vying for Kirinyaga County governor seat in the next year’s General Election. I would also like to remind those individuals joining different parties that the people of Kirinyaga will elect the person and not the party," Ngirici stated.

She added that Kirinyaga residents have in the past elected leaders on independent tickets despite their political party alliances.

"During a previous election period, you elected an MCA on an independent ticket because you were not pleased by the one who was endorsed by the party you were following,” she stated.

“So, even now, don’t look at the party; look at what the individual brings to the table in terms of development and leadership."

This is a contradiction to earlier statements made by the Woman Rep who had vowed to stay put at UDA and battle it out with Waiguru in the nominations.

Ngirici, on Thursday, November 25, disclosed that she partly financed Deputy President William Ruto's campaign and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) popularisation tours.

Ngirici, who spoke to The Standard, expressed regrets at her decision to spend millions of shillings on UDA, a party she accused of openly showing that it would support her rival, Anne Waiguru, in the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial contest in 2022.

The Woman Rep disclosed that she had converted her 'Ngirici and Sons Rescue Team Centre' to UDA County offices. In addition, she changed the branding of the centre's vehicles, from ambulances and service utility vehicles to UDA colours.
