A crisis is looming after Headteachers defied orders by Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, on school fees increment.
Reports indicated that parents will have to grapple with increased school fees as students resume learning for the third term.
According to parents with children at Kakamega High School, they were asked to part with Ksh9,000 each after learners went on a rampage and burned down two dormitories last year.
Parents had earlier on been informed that the money would cater for 280 double-decker beds for each dormitory, 560 mattresses, 560 boxes, 2 new blankets and two new bed sheets, 560 full sets of uniforms.
These items were estimated to cost a total of Ksh11,306,400.
Parents at the school claim that these conditions were not met by the school management although they were forced to pay monies for the damages.
According to the parents, learners were given old items and they never received the uniforms which had already been billed to the parents despite a court order stopping the punitive charges.
Further, the parents claim that they had to fork out more money if their children are studying certain subjects such as Electrical Science, Power Mechanics, Aviation, and Fine Arts.
Although the government has stipulated that the school fees is capped at Ksh45,000, parents have to pay an extra Ksh9,000 and Ksh3,000 which is never receipted.
The students taking the four subjects pay an extra Ksh5,000, with the parents terming such payments as illegal and unnecessary.
The same has been experienced in other schools and especially those that were affected by cases of unrest last year.
In Embu, parents told a local media house that they were forced to pay for all the damages caused by the learners failure to which their children would not be accepted in their respective schools.
