The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of a section of Thika - Garissa Road for over two months effective January, Wednesday, 19.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 18, KeNHA advised motorists to expect traffic disruptions on the busy road.

KeNHA further stated that it plans to close part of the said road due to the ongoing construction at Kathuluni River.

Through a public notice, KeNHA stated that the construction work will result in the closure of the main road from Wednesday, January 19, to Tuesday, April 5.

KeNHA advised motorists to use the provided diversions.

The government agency further urged drivers to exercise caution when approaching the area under construction, follow the traffic management plan, and the directions given by the traffic marshals on site.

"KeNHA, in pursuant to the Traffic Act Cap. 403 Section 71, wishes to notify the general public that a section of Thika - Garissa (A3) Road will be closed due to the ongoing construction of a Box Culvert at (KM 56+000) Kathuluni River (Kwa Majini)," the statement read in part.

This comes amid another road closure announcement by KeNHA on Saturday, January 15, indicating that traffic will be disrupted at the T-Mall Roundabout on Langata Road.

KeNHA Director General, Kung’u Ndung’u, explained that the road will be closed from Monday, January 17 to Saturday, January 22, 2022.

In a bid to ease movement, KeNHA stated that the construction work is scheduled to run at night between 9.00pm to 5.00am during the period.

Motorists were also cautioned that the Nyayo Stadium - Langata bound traffic will be diverted at Madaraka Roundabout through the Ole Sangale Road into Raila Odinga Way (formerly Mbagathi Way) into T-Mall Roundabout towards Langata.

This advisory came after KeNHA issued a progress report on the construction of the Nairobi Expressway stating its completion currently stands at 82 per cent.

KeNHA expressed optimism that the project is on schedule for opening to the public by March 2022.
