8 Dead as Trailer Rams Into 2 PSVs on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

Nearly eight people died after a trailer rammed into two passenger service vehicles (PSVs) along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

Nakuru West Sub-county  Police Commander Edwin Otieno confirmed the incident happened at Ngata on Tuesday, December 13.

Images seen by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that one of the 14-seater vans was completely wrecked on the right-hand side.

The other matatu overturned on impact with the trailer. Several bodies of some of the victims were sprawled on the accident scene.

First responders began a rescue mission to pull out survivors from the wreckage. Cranes also arrived on site.

10 casualties were rushed to the nearby hospitals to receive medical attention. 

The cause of the accident was yet to be established at the time of publishing this article. The current death toll stands at eight. 

Tuesday's accident was the second carnage at the Ngata blackspot in as many weeks that resulted in fatalities.

On November 26,  five students from the Rift Valley Institute of Agriculture and Technology perished in an early morning accident after a lorry rammed into the matatu they were travelling in.

In December 2018, former Chief Justice David Maraga and his wife narrowly survived an accident at the Ngata bridge. 

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on December 1, cautioned public transport and long-distance operators against disregarding traffic rules during the December festivities

A report released by NTSA  in September 2022 placed the total number of accident-related deaths at 3,358.
