The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has assured motorists that the new generation number plates would not be repossessed for the failure of providing any form of documentation as proof of ownership.

In a statement on Monday, February 6, the Authority clarified that it does not issue letters nor any other documents to motorists upon the allocation of the new number plates.

Various motorists had raised concerns about the issue, and were concerned if the Authority would seize the new number plates should they fail to produce documentation.

NTSA also affirmed that the registration of the new number plates would be served on a first come basis and would not follow a particular order.

The Authority reminded that the process was mandatory for all motorists to register for the new plates through the official website.

Motorists with either lost or defaced number plates were advised to select the new generation number plate at the third phase and upload the logbook and the pictures of the two plates in a PDF format.

NTSA also clarified that motorists with private vehicles would not require to undergo an inspection before applying for the new plates.

"You are not required to undergo an inspection. Apply via your account and upload the logbook and pictures of the 2 plates in a PDF format," read part of NTSA's response.

According to the Authority, the process of acquiring new generation number plates would only take seven days and three days for the transfer of logbook ownership.

Further, the new plates would also be synchronised with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) systems to nab tax cheats.
