"As the security officers were concentrating on neutralising the attackers, they were attacked from behind by another group of about 100 armed bandits surrounding the officers from all directions," read part of the police reports.

Turkana County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident noting that the region experienced two attacks on Friday, February 10.

The shoot-out reportedly went on for about two hours before the bandits fled leaving behind fatalities and several injured security personnel.

Following the incident, the injured officers were rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention.

Furthermore, three land cruisers, among other vehicles used by the officers, had their tyres deflated with other several damages inflicted by the bandits.

By the time of this publication, the vehicles were still at the scene of the attack.

Area residents called on the authorities to intervene and curb the menace that has disrupted lives and the learning of the children in the region.

Recently, several bandit attacks have been reported despite Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki's vow to radically and ruthlessly deal with the armed bandits wrecking havoc in the area for years.

On Monday, February 6, Kindiki announced the formation of a squad that would monitor and pursue bandits in all the affected areas, especially in Northern Kenya.

"The government is investing in community-based intelligence, drone surveillance technology, modern personal protection equipment and kitting for our security personnel and application of land and air assets to neuter bandits and rustlers," he declared.
