Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, February 22 seemed to retract his controversial remarks on the government being for those who only had shares in Kenya Kwanza.
Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho, Nairobi County, Gachagua stated that the government would serve everyone.
“Kenya belongs to all of us. Ruto’s government will serve everyone irrespective of how they voted.
The president will handle developmental matters while I will deal with streamlining the UDA party affairs,” he added.

Gachagua further stated that development will be done in all parts of the country since Kenyans deserved it through their taxes.
"We have pledged development in all parts of the country including Nyanza. However, only those who believe in the bottom-up economic plan will be allowed in government," he remarked.
He added that it was only such people that would be able to assist the president in delivering his mandate to the people.
On February 18, while in Kericho County Gachagua announced that only those who were staunch supporters of Kenya Kwanza will be rewarded.
“This government is a company that has shares. There are owners who have the majority of shares, and those with just a few, while others do not have any," he opined.
"You invested in this government and you must reap. You sowed, tilled, put manure and irrigated, and now it is time to reap,” he added.
In his remarks, Gachagua wondered how members of the opposition trooping in the State House would get rewarded before their own supporters.
“Some are criticising me for saying those who sowed should reap first, but there is nothing wrong. Their time of reaping will come someday after those who sowed have finished reaping,” he put across.
His statements irked the public with the Azimio Leader Raila Odinga calling him out for being divisive.
"There is a man who is said to be the DP who said that the government is like a company with shares and that those who voted for the government will get priority in the government.
"It was not just a joke because it is evident in the Cabinet and principal secretaries' appointments. Those individuals want to divide our country on a tribal basis," Odinga remarked.
