Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect involved in the fraudulent acquisition of a Ksh200 million land in Karen in Nairobi.
In a statement on Monday, December 8, the DCI said that the suspect was arrested after allegedly forging a deed of gift to unlawfully acquire the said piece of land.
The case began when a complainant reported that she had purchased the same land from the rightful owner, who had since passed away. This deceased owner had been handed the said land by her late mother.
Following the complaint, detectives swiftly launched an investigation, which revealed that the male suspect had created false documents purporting that he received the piece of land from the deceased owner as a gift.
During the probe, detectives gathered evidence, which was then submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further recommendations.
After an independent review, the ODPP supported the investigators' findings. The prosecution proceeded to approve charges of forgery and uttering false documents against the suspect.
Upon ODPP’s approval, DCI officers from the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect and arrested him.
“A manhunt ensued, leading to his arrest at Bruce House, Nairobi, thanks to forensic leads. He is now in custody, undergoing processing in anticipation of his arraignment,” the DCI officers said.
According to the DCI, the arrest not only highlights the ongoing efforts in the fight against land fraud but also serves as a warning to those who might attempt similar deceitful acts.
"The DCI is committed to protecting the rightful owners of property and ensuring accountability for those who engage in fraudulent schemes," the DCI officers affirmed.
The latest incident comes just three days after DCI officers arrested three individuals for allegedly orchestrating a fraudulent transfer of land owned by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and valued at approximately Ksh350 million.
Investigators revealed the trio falsely claimed that NSSF had sold and transferred the land measuring 3.043 hectares in Athi River, Machakos County, to them.
