Popular United Opposition lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who served as one of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua's lawyers during his impeachment trial at the Senate, has revealed that he supports Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper party instead of Rigathi Gachagua's DCP party despite coming from the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking during a Monday Dec 8 night interview on Obina TV, the lawyer said that he does not support Rigathi Gachagua but embraces his presence in the United Opposition.
"I don't support Riggy G, I support the Opposition. The United Opposition is not about an individual, and by the way, I am not even a member of DCP. I am a member of the Wiper Patriotic Front," the lawyer claimed.
However, the lawyer claimed that he would support the former deputy president if he is picked as the opposition's presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
"I will vote for any person who the United Opposition will front, as long as that person adheres to our ideals," Ndegwa said.
The lawyer outlined that his preferred presidential candidate will be one that follows the ideals of the rule of law, the ideals of constitutionalism, ideals of democracy, respect for institutions, respect for human rights, accountability, equity, and social justice.
Before the impeachment motion against Gachagua, Ndegwa Njiru used to be Gachagua's critic, where he used his social media platforms to criticize him when he was still serving as Deputy President.
Ndegwa however softened and represented Gachagua in his defense team against the impeachment motion tabled by MP Mwingi Mutuse. Thereafter, Ndegwa and Gachagua have been together in the United Opposition.
Despite his closeness with Gachagua in the United Opposition, the lawyer has chosen to work with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka instead of working with Gachagua, who hails from the Mount Kenya region.
During the interview, the lawyer asked President William Ruto to resign from government.
"Mr. William Ruto, my name is Ndegwa Njiru. I come from Kirinyaga. If you could do Kenyans a favor and resign and go home, you would have done this country a great service," the lawyer claimed.
Ndegwa Njiru is backing Kalonzo Musyoka to unseat President William Ruto, saying that Kalonzo has a trusted character to hold the country's top job.
