Hardly a month after the untimely death of gospel artiste Betty Bayo, her mother, Joyce Wairimu Mbugua, has called for a probe into the demise of her daughter.
Through her advocates, Mbugua, on Tuesday, December 8, filed a petition before the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), requesting the institution of an inquest into the Kikuyu singer's death.
According to Bayo's mother, the family has undergone unbearable pain in accepting the fact that the deceased, who had never exhibited any illness, died mysteriously.
In the letter to the ODPP, Wairimu alleged an evil hand in the death of her daughter and demanded an immediate probe into the cause of her death.
Wairimu claimed that the deceased never had a history of any underlying condition and that she was denied the report of the autopsy conducted on Bayo's body.
Bayo's mother also raised suspicion over the manner in which her daughter was buried, insisting that the burial was rushed to conceal some facts about what may have led to her death.
While raising concerns over the musician's death, Bayo's mother called on the ODPP to compel the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to immediately commence an investigation into the matter.
"The family thus express their utmost disdain, and thus demand that you hereby direct the Inspector General to urgently move with speed and institute an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua -alias Betty Bayo," read part of the notice.
"This request is made in line with Article 26 (3), 35 and 157 (4) of the Kenyan Constitution," the notice read further.
The gospel artist died on November 10 amid reports of a long battle with cancer. According to reports, she had been receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital before her death.
Addressing the press moments after Bayo's death, a family spokesperson revealed that the Bayo health deteriorated a week to her untimely demise after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
The family spokesperson further stated that the late musician suffered excessive bleeding before her sudden death.
