President Uhuru Kenyatta Did not Secretly Meet Dubai Printing Firm- Kenya National Chamber of Commerce Chairman Kiprono Kittony Declares

The  Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) on Thursday stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta did not have a private meeting with any member of either the Kenya or Dubai Chambers of Commerce

KNCCI chairman Kiprono Kittony while addressing the media stated that he together with his Dubai counterparts paid the President a courtesy call to brief him on the areas of collaboration on trade and investment.

Mr Kittony explained that before visiting State House, KNCCI held a meeting with the Dubai delegation and discussed investment opportunities available in agribusiness, livestock, fisheries, and infrastructure.

The KNCCI chairman noted that their visit to the Head of State was a business meeting, not a political event since it was aimed at building closer trade ties between the two countries.

Kittony warned politicians against politicizing such matters stating that they might scare away investors.

“Business meetings should not be confused with politics and we urge the political class to refrain from utterances that scare away investors,” he said.

He ( Kittony ) noted that it was a  common practice across the continent during the business delegation meetings to host business-to-business meetings with host country businesspeople as well as pay a courtesy call on the country leadership to brief them on areas of collaboration.

“After our meeting, as has been practice with other business delegations from around the world, we paid a courtesy call on President Uhuru Kenyatta in State House. The meeting was attended by 10 people from the Dubai delegation and Kenya Chapter official," Kittony stated.

Dubai National Chamber of Commerce chairman Majid Saif Al Ghurair is a senior official in the company awarded the Sh2.5 Billion ballot papers printing tender.

Earlier reports indicated that President Kenyatta had met Mr Al Ghurai where they discussed on the ballot papers printing tender and the Head of State allegedly agreed to award the tender to the company.
