IEBC Shortlists 5 Firms to Replace Al Ghurair in Printing of Ballot Papers

Two days before the Court of Appeal's final ruling on the presidential ballot tender case, the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already identified five firms that could replace Dubai-based Al Ghurair in case the court rules for re-tendering.

During a crisis meeting on Monday, it emerged that the electoral body had secured Treasury’s approval to undertake specialised tendering that would bypass tedious procurement procedures.

The commissioners agreed to initiate discussions with five firms that would be capable of printing the presidential ballots at a reasonable price as they await the court of appeal to make its final ruling on the matter on Thursday.

The shortlisted firms included two United Kingdom Security printing experts; Tall Security and GI solutions and three South African firms Pearl Media, Unprint and Renform.

IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo stated the Commission would wait for the outcome of the court case before making any other move.

On Tuesday, the Evangelical and Pentecostal churches demanded that IEBC test poll results transmissions so as to avoid failure especially in Rural areas before the election dates.

On the other hand, lawyer Gladwell Otieno who is the founder of African Centre for Open Governance (AFRICOG) has moved to court to compel IEBC to open up the voters register for public inspection.

In her court documents, she wants the Commission to gazette the list per polling station.
