Raila Odinga Wishes President Uhuru Kenyatta Best of Luck in Elections, Promises to Accept Defeat

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga graced the Presidential debate on Monday and his closing remarks left a huge impression on Kenyans.

After answering questions pertaining to matters corruption, accountability and his plan for the country, the panellists gave Odinga a chance to make his closing remark and he made some admirable comments.

Raila called out on all registered voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right and said that victory would belong to Kenyans and not the politicians involved.

"August 8, 2017, will be a historic day. Every Kenyan registered voter should turn out to vote...it is sad that President Uhuru Kenyatta did not attend because I wanted him to listen to all this," he remarked.

He went ahead to wish his rivals the best of luck in the elections saying it was like a 'friendly match' that should not divide Kenyans.

"I wish Uhuru and DP William Ruto the best of luck in the elections.

"This will be like a friendly match and whoever loses should be gracious in defeat," said Mr Odinga.

For a while now, Kenyans have demanded to know whether the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate will accept defeat after the elections but this statement restored calm in the country.

He also stated that most of the remarks he makes during political rallies should not be taken out of context.

Mr Odinga was responding to allegations that he had referred to Kenyatta as a drunkard and Ruto as a thief.

"I do not remember calling Uhuru a drunkard but if I did, it was probably with a light touch.

"...there are political jokes. When Uhuru calls me a mad man I do not think he means it.

"That basically means the kitchen is too hot for him," he added.
