2 IEBC Officials Charged in Court for Denying Voters Ballot Papers

Two Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials from Samburu County were yesterday arraigned in court for intentionally denying voters ballot papers.

The officials, 47-year-old Fredrick Lentrukan, and 26-year-old Monica Njoroge, appeared before a Maralal Court where they were accused of preventing 12 voters from accessing ballot papers for governor and woman representative seats.

Senior Magistrate Abraham Gachie heard that on August 8, the two IEBC officials prevented voters from exercising their voting rights at Maralal Social Hall polling station in Samburu West Constituency.

The two officials were released on Sh30,000 cash bail as is prescribed under the Kenyan Electoral law.

The case will be mentioned on August 17 and a hearing was set for September 13, 2017.

Meanwhile, police have today arrested three IEBC Presiding Officers in Trans Nzoia County on allegations of committing various poll malpractices.

The three include Wellington Papako, Michael Wekesa and Benson Senda.
