IEBC Deputy Presiding Officer Murdered in Siaya County

An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Deputy Presiding officer was found murdered in Siaya County on Saturday.

The body of Ms Caroline Odinga was discovered in a thicket at Sega trading Centre in the county.

Siaya County Police Commander, Mrs Sarah Duncan, stated that they got information about the death of the Ms Odinga from residents who were on their way to attend the burial of slain IEBC ICT director Chris Msando in Lifunga village.

"We were attending the burial of Chris Msando when we received information that a lifeless body was found dumped in a thicket in Sega, we have launched investigations into the matter," she conveyed.

Initial police investigations show she was gang-raped before being killed.

The reports further indicate that her genitals and left ear were badly mutilated.

Siaya Police boss asked the public to let them complete the investigations and refrain from spreading rumors about the murder.

"We urge the locals to ensure that they keep off sensationalizing this matter and let the police do their work," Mrs Duncan stated.

Her family told police that she had left home on Friday to get her pay after working as deputy presiding officer during the just concluded elections and never returned.
