Dagoretti MP Simba Arati Arrested as Anti- Riot Police Disperse NASA Supporters Outside City Hall

A National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of Parliament was arrested by when police engaged in running battles with the Coalition supporters who had gathered outside the Supreme Court. 

Dagoretti North MP-elect Simba Arati was briefly detained on Sunday after he demanded the removal of barricades outside Supreme Court where supporters led by a section of legislators of the NASA coalition were holding a peaceful public assembly called for by coalition principals.

Moments after being whisked away by police, the Orange Democratic Movement MP pledged to return to Supreme Court.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi had a verbal altercation with one of the officers.

The Supreme court earlier postponed the hearing of NASA's presidential petition that was scheduled to commence on Sunday at 3 pm.

Supreme Court registrar, Esther Nyaiyaki announced on Sunday that the hearings will commence on Monday at 9 am instead.

She further directed that rulings on the poll petition applications will now be heard on Sunday 7 pm.

On Saturday, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen criticised the police for failing to approve a request to hold a vigil outside the Court where the presidential petition hearing will be continuing.

The Opposition leaders maintained that they would still hold their prayers in an area bordering the Court despite the police cordoning off roads leading to the building.
