Former Governor Accused of 'Stealing' Raila's Supreme Court Petition

Former Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has been accused of plagiarizing the Supreme Court petition by National Super Alliance (NASA) Principal Raila Odinga when filing his petition challenging the current Governor's election.

During the court case, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) lawyers claimed that Mr Abdullahi irregularly copy-pasted documents used by Mr Odinga during the petition that saw the nullification of the August 8 Presidential election.

Mr Abdullahi is the immediate former Governor of Wajir County and the Orange Democratic Movement's (ODM) National Vice Chairman.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo confirmed that in many of the petitions, the challengers were directly copying the Supreme Court case thus making theirs lack objectivity.

"People are copy pasting the Supreme Court without paying attention to the details. They want to access servers, but they don't know what they want to do with the access," he explained.

On Thursday, three petitions that were filed in different High Courts were dismissed for different reasons.

One filed by Ganze Jubilee candidate Peter Safari Shehe against the current Member of Parliament, Teddy Mwambire, was dismissed by Justice Weldon Korir after discovering that it did not meet the threshold requirements for a petition.

Justice Korir further stated that Mr Shehe failed to present documents which indicated the results of his opponent adding that the petitioner failed to use the reports to present his case.

“The petition does not show the number of votes cast in favor of each of the candidates who participated in the questioned election. The total votes cast in the election are also missing,” states part of the ruling.
