MP Mohammed Ali's Passionate Defense of Police Wows Kenyans

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali on Tuesday, in Parliament, delivered his contribution on the provision of salary incentives and decent housing for police officers, leaving Kenyans quite impressed.

The investigative journalist turned lawmaker passionately defended police officers, stating that Kenya had failed them by remunerating officers poorly in spite of the crucial role they played in keeping citizens safe.

"Dunia mzima imeekeza katika usalama wa taifa, lakini hapa nchini Kenya sisi tumeekeza katika uhalifu wa kujitakia kwa sababu hatufuatilii utaratibu na kanuni zinazohitajika kuhakikisha ya kwamba usalama inapatikana (The whole world has invested in national security, but in Kenya, we have invested in crime willingly, because we don't follow procedures and regulations that are needed to ensure security is found)," he began.

Ali told stories of heroic officers who were injured in the line of duty during the crisis such as the Westgate Mall attack who had been neglected by the State.

Going ahead to name them, he revealed that the officers were languishing in sickness with bullets lodged in their bodies.

Ali decried the poor housing conditions many police officers have to put up with, stating that it could lead them to engage in erratic, harmful behaviour.

He further highlighted the irony of powerful politicians going scot-free after looting huge amounts of public funds while police officers who solicited Sh200 bribes became the subject of major news stories.

Kenyans online were awed by his contribution, with many describing him as a breath of fresh air in the August House.

One user wrote: "This is what quality representation looks like. I wish we had 10 more like him Moha Jicho pevu. Words of Wisdom speaking loud! May God bless you Moha."

"Why are those benches empty? Let me imagine how full they would be if it were their own salaries. A job well done Hon. Moha," another remarked.
