Former Agriculture Assistant Minister Patrick Muiruri has received justice after a high court awarded him with Ksh15 Million after his son was shot dead by a police officer.
Justice Joseph Sergon found that Muiruri had proved his case for compensation upon the loss of his son James Muriuki.
“The deceased died as a result of a gunshot fired by a trigger happy police officer. The plaintiff and the defendant entered into a consent in which it was agreed that the defendant was wholly liable for the death of the deceased,” the judge ruled.
In his ruling, he awarded the family Ksh12 Million and an additional Ksh3.5 Million as exemplary damages.

Justice Sergon noted that the deceased was young when he was killed and directed that the family be paid on income loss after his murder.
James (29) was shot by former inspector Dickson Munene during a bar brawl in 2009.
The later was in 2011, together with businessman Alex Chepkonga found guilty of the murder and sentenced to death by Justice Muhamed Warsame.
Chepkonga challenged the ruling in the Court of Appeal and won while Munene is serving his time.
Following the ruling, the senior Muiruri who once Gatundu North MP filed a civil suit against the Attorney General citing income loss. On his part, the AG took the blame for the killing.
Here is a breakdown of what the family will be paid: Ksh100,000 for pain and suffering, loss of expectation of life Ksh200,000, loss of dependency Ksh12,000,000, special damages Ksh1,557,736 and exemplary damages Ksh2,000,000.
